Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started
Tap the orange + button on the home screen. You can type the medication name (with autocomplete), tap Speak It to say it out loud ("I take 50mg of Trazodone twice a day"), or tap Scan Bottle to point your camera at the pill bottle label. SimpleRX reads the label automatically and fills in the details.
When adding a medication, scroll to the Reminders section. You can set one or more daily reminder times using the time picker. Toggle Speak reminder out loud to have Siri announce the medication name through your speaker or AirPods. Enable Missed dose notifications to get an alert if you forget to mark a dose taken.
Go to iPhone Settings β†’ Accessibility β†’ Siri β†’ Announce Notifications and turn it on. Once enabled, Siri will read your SimpleRX reminders aloud through your speaker or AirPods β€” even when your phone is locked. You can also turn this on from SimpleRX's Settings screen.
PRN stands for "pro re nata" β€” Latin for "as needed." When adding a medication, check Take as needed (PRN) if you only take it when symptoms arise (like pain relievers or rescue inhalers). PRN medications won't trigger reminders or missed-dose alerts, won't count toward your daily total, and appear at the bottom of your list β€” moving up once all your scheduled medications are taken.
When adding a medication, fill in Total Pills and Per Day in the Pill Supply section. SimpleRX will count down as you mark doses taken and alert you when you're running low β€” with a button to call your pharmacy directly.
Scanning & Voice Entry
After scanning, all fields are fully editable before you save. Good lighting and a flat label (not curved around the bottle) help the most. If only the medication name was captured, the What Is It For? field will auto-fill from the FDA database once you tap into the name field. You can always fill in remaining fields manually.
Tap Speak It on the Add Prescription screen, then tap the microphone button and say something like "I take 50 milligrams of Zoloft once a day in the morning." SimpleRX uses on-device speech recognition to transcribe what you said, then parses the medication name, dose, and schedule. You can review and edit everything before saving.
Yes β€” this is a Pro feature. Tap Import List on the Add Prescription screen, then take a photo of your discharge paper, pharmacy printout, or any typed medication list. SimpleRX reads the entire page and presents a checklist of medications found. Select the ones you want to add and they're all imported at once.
Caregiver Setup
Patient side: Go to Settings β†’ Share with Caregiver and tap Generate Pairing Code. Share the 6-digit code with your caregiver.

Caregiver side: Download SimpleRX, tap I'm a Caregiver on the welcome screen, enter your name and the patient's 6-digit code, then tap Connect to Patient.

Both devices must be signed into iCloud for the connection to work. The code is single-use and expires after connection.
View Only β€” the caregiver can see medications, schedules, and dose history, and receives notifications for taken doses, missed doses, and refill alerts. They cannot make any changes.

Full Control β€” the caregiver can also add medications on the patient's behalf and edit the patient's emergency information. The patient sets this level in Settings and can change it at any time.
Both devices must be signed into iCloud with active internet connections. Try these steps:
  • Make sure both phones are connected to Wi-Fi or cellular
  • Have the patient generate a new code (tap Regenerate Code)
  • Enter the fresh code immediately β€” codes can expire
  • Check that both devices are signed into iCloud (iPhone Settings β†’ Apple ID)
No. Caregivers never pay for anything. The caregiver dashboard, all patient monitoring features, and notifications are completely free for caregivers. Only the patient needs SimpleRX Pro to unlock features like unlimited medications and Apple Watch sync.
Emergency Medical ID
Tap the Emergency tab at the bottom of the screen, then tap Edit. Fill in your blood type, allergies, medical conditions, emergency contacts, doctor, and code status (DNR, Full Code, etc.). Your medications are added automatically from your medication list.
From the Emergency tab, tap Generate EMS Card. This creates a professional PDF card with all your critical medical information β€” medications, allergies, conditions, emergency contacts, and code status. Tap Share to send it via email, AirDrop, or Messages, or save it to your Files app. This feature requires SimpleRX Pro.
Apple Watch
SimpleRX Pro includes Apple Watch support. Once you unlock Pro, the Watch app installs automatically. Open the Watch app on your iPhone, scroll down to SimpleRX, and tap Install if it hasn't installed automatically. Your medications sync whenever your iPhone and Watch are connected.
Long press your watch face β†’ tap Edit β†’ tap a complication slot β†’ scroll to find SimpleRX. The complication shows your next upcoming medication and time at a glance.
Pricing & Purchase
The free version includes up to 3 medications, daily reminders, refill alerts, drug interaction warnings, side effect education, voice and scan entry, and the full Emergency Medical ID. There's no time limit β€” free features are free forever.
No. SimpleRX Pro is a one-time purchase of $2.99. Pay once and the unlock is yours forever β€” on all your devices. No monthly fees, no annual renewals.
On the paywall screen, tap Restore Purchase. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID that made the original purchase. Your unlock will be restored at no charge.
